Parent Email January 31

Parents,

I am finalizing our travel plans for the Boston trip, and would really covet your prayers for the team. It’s a good group going, and hopefully we’ll be able to get a lot of good work done while we’re there! Pray for our church planter we’ll be working with, and what assignment he will have for us. I’ll be finding that out hopefully soon, waiting to hear back from our coordinator in Boston.
Summer Camp – Camp will be at Crossings at Cedarmore June 6-10 (where we went last year). Deposits must be in by this coming Sunday, February 6, in order to reserve a spot for your student. After Sunday, unless previous arrangements are made, we will not be adding anyone else to the camp roster. Crossings asks for a substantial deposit in mid-February, and so that is why I am asking for commitments so early in the year. So far we have received 2 deposits and only have a dozen or so signed up for camp. If your student wants to go for this life-changing experience, I need to know ASAP.
Spring Conference – Because we have had to cancel the ski trip and are not planning to do a Disciple Now this year with 2 mission trips planned for breaks and 1 big one over the summer, I would love to take as many students as we can to Louisville March 18-20. Southern Seminary, where Carrie and I are both students, is hosting an annual conference for high school (and middle school too) students centered on apologetics. It’s called Give Me An Answer and this year’s theme is “Important” looking at wisdom. I would highly encourage you to allow your student to go to this, it will be a time of excellent teaching, worship, and fellowship centered around wisdom. You can find more info about the conference here: http://events.sbts.edu/gmaa-student/. We will be staying at the Ramada on Zorn Avenue in Louisville, and will leave Murray around 12:30 or so Friday (Calloway students have been instructed to receive permission for early dismissal), and return Sunday after attending church in Louisville at Sojourn Community Church. The cost for this trip is $100, which includes everything except two road meals. For families with more than one student, it’s buy one get one half off. If you want your student to go but the cost is an issue, there are some scholarship opportunities, just let me know how much is needed and I’ll see if we can take care of that!
Fundraiser Meals – We will be doing fundraiser meals on Wednesday nights a couple times this spring in order to raise money for our Boston participants as well as anyone who wants to work to decrease the amount owed for camp. Students will earn money based on the hours they work (it will be divided up equally per hour). Parents, you’re welcome to work for your student, but I would encourage you to have them be the one working so that this is something that they earn. Those dates will be coming up soon, but they will all be before the final payments are due for camp and for our mission trip.
Thank you for all you do to God’s glory!
